Warm Up: Describe the culture of food in your family. Family meals together? Clean plate club? Everyone takes their turn cooking? Has it changed as you've gotten older?
Finish dinner party activity
Use your weekly food budget to buy TEN food items and ONE non-food item from the grocery store ads we have been working with. The items must be things you will REALLY use and would ACTUALLY buy!
Create a receipt with a store name, the list of items, the price of each item, sales tax and the total.
Warm Up: Create your own food animal, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs style. What is it? TacoDile or a CheeseSpider are examples. :)
You have invited your favorite three people over for dinner! Plan a meal for four-main course and a dessert or appetizer.
Find two recipes with at least seven ingredients (salt and pepper not included in the seven) for the main course and at least four ingredients for your dessert or appetizer. Shop online or in the newspaper circulars and price out your recipes. Add sales tax at 7.9%.
What is the total spent on the meal?
How much will it cost you per person?
How did your dinner party effect your budget?
Warm Up; What are some important qualities your food must have and why? Organic? Cheap? Flavorful? Better quality ingredients? Gourmet?
Cost per unit
Compare seven items between a grocery store circular and an online store. Figure the cost per unit for each comparable item. Which one will you buy?
Warm up: Name five "emergencies" that you might use your emergency fund to cover? How much money do you think you will have set aside in your emergency fund when you feel like you can stop saving?
